Her general unraveling in my absence was what pushed us to get the diagnosis. I hadn't realized quite how much she relied on me to negotiate her day. After I returned she wouldn't even look at me for the first few days, and to this day if I say I'm going to the doctor it sort of freaks her out. More recently I've been dealing with my own physical limitations - chronic headaches thanks to a car accident 10 years ago that I didn't pay enough attention to - and it has been hard to balance getting the therapy, etc. that I need with caring for my daughter and her siblings. It is really wearing and hard to even explain to other people, even though with respect to what others are going through it is small. These have been really important lessons, though, and part of what I've realized is that I need to help my daughter navigate independently and/or know who else she can rely on in her world. It's been almost three years and I think we're making good progress.KDLhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04049991789143474040noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7572070976923021388.post-20499448073160370482010-11-08T09:31:04.200-08:002010-11-08T09:31:04.200-08:00From one Spoonie with special needs kids to anothe...From one Spoonie with special needs kids to another- I hear everything you said here. It's not easy, but I wouldn't trade it for anything. My kids are the light of my life, and I wouldn't trade my three *3!* special needs kids for anything. They've taught me so much about what I truly AM capable of, and have really taught me the difference between things we *want* and *need* to do.BiFemPaganhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09054668039985467652noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7572070976923021388.post-13913469575676384902010-11-07T12:47:22.323-08:002010-11-07T12:47:22.323-08:00Wow! I can't imagine raising any kids when dealing with chronic pain, but a kid with SPD and autism (among other things?) seems incomprehensible!

This was a great post. A great reminder that we need to take care of our needs as well as those of our kids.Patty O.https://www.blogger.com/profile/15598358666714482323noreply@blogger.com
