SPD Blog Carnival -- Sensational Siblings

It is that time again! Please join the SPD Blog Carnival by posting your link below -- our theme for September is "Sensational Siblings".

Let us know about your 'other' kid(s)!  How do they handle having a sibling with challenges?  Have you found a great way to include them, teach them, bond with them?  How do they connect with their siblings?  Did they do something AWESOME and you just want to brag?  Let us know!  If your child is an only child, please feel free to blog about sibling issues in a different way -- write about a sibling book, or a SibShops class near you, or about your choice to only have one child and how it was influenced by your child’s needs, BE CREATIVE!

This is an amazing way to take the best of the best from the SPD Blogging Community every month, and publish it in one location -- kind of like having a monthly 'magazine' that people can come to and read. Everyone of you that reads this (even you lurkers!) can participate -- you DO NOT have to be part of the SPD Blogger Network to participate in the carnival. (But, if you blog about SPD, please consider joining because we would love to have you!)

I also encourage you to check out the other links posted here -- explore other blogs and learn more about what the SPD journey is like for families all over -- we have many new SPDBN members to learn from!

If you have any questions, feel free to email me.

Please share this post on your Facebook and on Twitter -- and any where else you can reach more SPD parents!

Now link up!

YAY! Sensational SIBLINGS!!! As you know, Hartley, the focus on my blog this month has been seeing SPD with a 'Family Focus'. The link I put up is to an 'interview' I did with Jaimie's younger sister, Jordy who has dealt with being a 'sensational' sibling the longest AND is in a very unique position of having both an older AND younger sibling with SPD and other issues.

I love my Jordy. I hope her insight helps other siblings feel less alone with their feelings.

Thanks for this one, Hartley.

Thanks for this! I love having the chance to talk more about my oldest and how well he does with his younger brother. I too did an interview a few weeks ago and I'm excited to share it with everyone.

When I found out I was pregnant with Olivia I was really worried. Olivia was unexpected and Quintin was at the stage of hitting and kicking and he was hitting and kicking me. I was worried he would do the same to the baby when she was born. Quintin had been an only child for 4 years and I was worried he would have troubled adjusting to the change.

When Olivia was born, I was pleasantly surprised to see that Quintin absolutely adored his sister and is always looking out for her. Now that they are older, his sister is a highly valued play mate. Sure, his sensory seeking ways bug her sometimes but she has learned to be very vocal and very much an advocate for herself. She let's him know when he's too in her space. This has helped her now that she is in school too because she is not afraid to stand up for herself.

They adore each other through and through and Olivia get's the added benefit of getting to play fun sensory games too. I just bought them a bunch of Playdough to help Quintin get enough sensory input and Olivia is thrilled. They take turns playing on his mini-trampoline. Quintin is very doting on his little sister, but also can be a bit of a pill and likes to bug her. I think that is called just being a brother. I think it's important to remember that some of it is SPD and some of it is being 7 years old and a brother.

Quintin and Olivia, together they are a team and I couldn't imagine it nay other way.

My sensational kiddo certainly gets more blog time than his brother. It's nice to be able to even it out a little. Thanks for taking time to focus on the sibs:)

Another great idea for the carnival. My post is a bit of a departure, but definitely deals with siblings....Hope it's ok...

I am not the best at blogging. I have to say I have not been consistant, but I love the idea of a carnival, and the chance to be focused for a bit.

Oops! I so did not mean for the subtitle to come up with my link, so if you can delete that, feel free. That must have been from an earlier post I did somewhere... Anyway, thank you for hosting another great carnival. Here I am, late again with it, but happy to be involved, reading and sharing.
